Horseback Riding & Treks

Going off for an entire day, two days, or even a whole week on horseback: isn't that the dream of all riders looking for a chance to be at one with their mount in the heart of the countryside?

Les Écuries de Milhac de Nontron provides Sunday horse riding treks year-round, on reservation. After preparing the horses, our teams head off for hours at a time to discover the beautiful hidden secrets of the Périgord Vert. A break is taken for a leisurely, gourmet lunch, and then it's back on the trail, allowing your food to digest to the gentle rhythmn of the horses' hooves.

Especially long treks of 2-3 days are run on bank holiday weekends, with stopovers arranged in local gîtes or guest-houses, where a warm welcome from the owners is guaranteed.

In the summer time, children over 7 who have attained the level of 'gallop + 3' are welcome to join us on longer rides of 5 days of nature exploration. The horses and ponies travel on average 20 to 25 km each day. Depending on the route taken, stopovers at night are either in tents, or in local gîtes.

Adventurous adolescents can go for entire week-long rides. Riders are accompanied at all times by a qualified instructor holding the BEES 1er (Brevet d'État d'Éducateur, or State Certified Sporting Educator) qualification, as well as a diploma in equestrian tourism. The routes selected have been used for many years, and the horses are well-prepared. There's nothing to do but forget yourself on horseback along the beautiful woodland trails.
